Red Rum was one of the most popular Steeplechasers ever in the UK. Winner of the Grand National in 1973 and 1974 and again in 1977. He was based at Southport in Merseyside and is one of the few horses to actually have a train named after him. This statue was erected in the Wayfarers Arcade in Southport and is constantly photographed. He died in 1995 and was buried at the winning post on the Aintree racecourse, site of the Grand National.
