Part of the problem of this attention deficit disordered world is that things like this become nothing more than part of the background noise of the world. People are aware that they're there but pay them no heed because of all of the other visual noise competing for their attention.
A shot like this works to counter that problem, cropping straight in and almost saying to the viewer "Here, look at this. Consider the work that went into it."
