Prince "Mikhail Kutuzov" (6560)

Portrait of Prince Mikhail Kutuzov by George Dawe.
This portrait hangs in The 1812 War Gallery in the Hermitage.

If you have read "War and Peace" by Tolstoy or are otherwise familiar with the Russian adventures of Napoleon, you'll recognize the name. He was the one who led the Russian army in the battle at Borodino on september 7th 1812 (50% of the Russian soldiers died) and decided to withdraw beyond Moscow. For more info I suggest you read Wikipedia.

This was shot at ISO1600 @ 12mm and required a lot of canvas transformation to straighten it out.
Colors may be inaccurate, this is a crop.

Because of the strange positioning of the cloth the arm pointing out looks akward positioned on the body. By lines it is alright, but visually it looks wrong. So, I don't like it. But I am showing it anyway, because now I can visualize this man. (I read War and Peace)

other sizes: small medium original auto
