Community Center, Beijing, China, 2004

I was struck by the red walls. They speak of the new China, yet these men represent the old China. They may be waiting for loved ones, someone they know, or someone new. They have come here to find friends and make the long days move by a bit more quickly. I hope they can.

I wanna send this picture as a New Year gift to my friend Mikel, I wish him a very lucky 2005! :)

The china red wall (symbolic for the new china) creates a connection between the two man both sitting and waiting /symbolic for the old china). There are no communications between them - they are brother in soul though! Love the repeat of her hats on the tables. The man on top are listening to music?! It`s such a pleasure to discover all the details here....

A picture from a genius! The cropping is well done. I tried to crop the left a little but the senior on the top seems having less hope in red. Thank you!

Hello Jennifer, I stumbled on your delightful gallery and have enjoyed looking so much. I do like this image, the solitude with brightness showing hope. I think I would prefer the left side cropped some, to remove the white and brown rail from the lower corner. To me it seems to distract from the overall context a little. This is only My opinion tho'. Either way, you're a very talented photographer, and much better than I. You have a wonderful future ahead, keep up the good work. ****You have made another magical image here, Jen, so rich in abstraction, incongruity and human values. The red color gives it the flavor of China, too. Two older men patiently are waiting for something or someone, each alone in their thoughts. They seem to have been plucked out of old China and dropped into the New China. You have incongruously juxtaposed them so that one is down low, the other up high. One is framed in red, the other in white. Even the red cap on the table adds to the delight of this image. I get the feeling that while each man waits patiently, each may be rewarded for that wait. The bright color context, the modernity of the furnishings, and the brightness of the light in that window at top, tells me this.
