San Diego State University
West edge of campus. All these buildings are new, or in the case of the one on the left, refurbished.
The campus has grown from 421 students in 1916 to over 34,000 last year. Not surprisingly they have run out of room.
To continue expanding, older buildings, (and there are quite few from the 1930's, 40's and 50's) are being razed to build taller structures (cranes in background).
The University is hungry to expand and the neighborhoods surrounding the campus have been successful in preventing this. At least for now.
Note: With 23 campuses and eight off-campus centers enrolling 478,638 students with 24,405 faculty and 23,012 staff, California State University is the largest four-year public university system in the United States.
