100204_194951_5093 Wedge (Thu 04 Feb 10)

Sydney, NSW, Australia

As you know if you've been following my PAD gallery, I try to find a shot that is in some way connected with the theme of the day, however tenuous bordering on gossamer that connection might be.

So what does today's shot tell us? Well, of course its, ah, er, a reference to Jungian symbolism whereby the division of the, ah, orange represents mankind's struggle against the, ah, er, um...

Oh all right, it was a desperation still life shot. It does, however, reflect two themes:
(a) I had an idea to do at least one shot per week from my Olympus point and shoot so that I get a little more familiar with it rather than relying on the Canons all the time. After reviewing the results of today's shots... let's leave that idea on hold indefinitely shall we? And
(b) While I've never been a great fan of the 300D's slow write times, today it absolutely drove me to distraction when I was trying to take some backup shots at lunch time. Even though I had jammed the fastest, turbocharged, nitro-burning Lexar memory card you can buy into it, when I really needed it to be shooting fast and displaying histograms faster (not least because I was on a floating pier that was being rocked rather hard by an incoming tide) it wouldn't. It just wouldn't. I can't tell you how much I was pining for the 40D at that moment.

Oh, wait, that's it! It's been an uncomfortably warm and sticky day, and what better way to cool down than a fresh orange from the 'fridge! Yes, that's it, it wasn't a desperation shot at all! {Whispered aside} Whew, I think they bought it... {/Whispered aside}

(And it also goes to disprove Mairead's theory that guys tend to go for gadgets and tools in desperation shots. Oh, if you discount the knife. Maybe I can just clone that out with one of my power tools...)
