The art deco Palais theatre dates back to 1927. In 1929 it was one of the first cinemas to screen... talkies! Old it may be, but it's claimed to be the largest theatre in Australia with a capacity of 2,896.
However it has doubtless seen better days, and a $20M refurbishment is underway.
