Red is Lucky

*Best in Original*

It is easy to see that red is considered a lucky color for Chinese.
People like to decorate their homes with red accessories, perhaps more so during the
Chinese New Year celebrations. And apart from the 'luck' aspect, the color has
become somewhat a kind of festive symbol.

On the outer islands, I always considered myself lucky when I found a nice harborside restaurant,
red chairs and all, where I could take my lunch for a few dollars. The view was
always interesting, either the coming and going at the tables, or to the sides of the open
space, where one could see huge supertankers, ferries, fishing boats and traditional junks
plying the warm, brown, island waters. And there were always a few locals fishing from shore,
amongst the assorted oriental flotsam and jetsam of this busy world.
