One of 'the jewels in the crown' for my Royal Camera Co. Japan collection.
c1955 early model Royal 35-S, which is (as far as I know) from the
first year or so of production of 35mm rangefinders from Royal Camera Co.
There are some similarities to the early Canon Nikon, Contax and Leica rangefinders, of course !
More cameras by Royal Camera Co. Japan
Finding this camera in Thessaloniki, Greece, and acquiring it from a collector
there, adds a nice richness to the more common Royals and Royal clones.
(All of this, because I discovered my Hanimex C-35 was made by Royal Camera Co. (Daiou Shashin Kōgaku))
A couple of things I have noticed with this particular camera:
Only the S model seems to have a 50mm lens - the later versions and clones reverted to 45mm - all by Tomioka.
And, I have seen a picture of this model 35-S elsewhere, with the film counter beside the accessory shoe, and the rewind button 'blank'.
Still looking for the Ogikon 35E, Mansfield Skylark E and V, and the Torca 35 - all 'branded' clones of the Royal rangefinder cameras.
