Fireplace detail

Years of "blacking" have sort of blurred the pattern on the metalwork, though it might not have been very sharp in the first place - I'd love to have it stripped, if such a thing is possible, to freshen it up.
But perhaps I should think of it as an old wooden piece with patina built up over the years!

I'm with Mairead and the others - keep it as it is and revel in the antiquity of all those past roaring fires...I like the way you've used the mantle as a 2/4ths framing; it keeps the eyes focused on the beautiful tiles & their rich colours, and on the delicate ironwork's patterns....a beautiful shot, Ann.
