June 7 Photo 2, 46 Days After Burn

The next step was for Dr. Sood to decide how to proceed next. He decided the best treatment would be to cover the wound with a synthetic material called Integra and attach a wound vac to the burn. The Integra would provide protection to the wound bed and allow tissue to grow through it. The wound vac collected any drainage from the burn, but the main benefit was to apply negative pressure to the wound which would draw blood to it to promote faster healing. This surgery was performed on Tuesday, May 16. I was discharged from Wishard the next day.

The doctor was concerned about getting the Integra to stick to the area where the bone is exposed. The white area in the above photo is bone (yuck!).

Thanks for sharing your story and pictures. I was looking for pictures of burns for a presentation I have to do in my nursing class. It is about burn prevention and caring for burns. Thanks again.
