The plan was to give the Integra 21 days to get it to stick. 21 days came and went on June 6 and the Integra has not stuck. The Integra was actually removed from the area where the bone is exposed. The good news is that there is new tissue growing around the outside of the exposed bone. This new tissue is called granulation.
We will see Dr. Sood on Monday, June 12. At that time he will decide how to proceed next. If there is enough granulation he may want to extend the current treatment with the wound vac to try to get more granulation. The whole problem is the exposed bone. A skin graft can not be placed over the wound if there is exposed bone. The life of the skin graft depends upon it receiving blood flow to keep it alive. If it is laying over bone then there is no blood supply to keep it alive. Pray for granulation!
