We were going out to a South Texas Ranch today to do some chores. On the last bit of pavement, well off the beaten path, this gobbler was standing on the road side of a high deer fence. We backed up, got down from the car with camera. He started Gobbling and we could hear other turkeys doing the same in the trees on the ranch side of the fence. He decided to join his flock and tried to vertically leap the 8 foot game fence from a flat footed start. He got almost to the top and fell back. He then made a hasty retreat and ran to the other side of the road with a lower fence and beat a retreat. Only his dignity was hurt. The next two pictures end the saga.
