Wild Rose, East Fork, Mink Creek Trail, Pocatello, Idaho
East Mink Trail, Scout Mountain, Pocatello, Idaho
Believe Ruth Moorhead thinks this is a Nootka Rose, Rosa nutkana, because the sepals appear to extend beyond the petals. But the petals are unusually gathered and not spread out like they would be on the other wild roses I've seen, even when compared to other pictures of Rosae nutkanae (? - correct me - I never took Latin because they didn't make engineering majors at McGill do so!) on the Web, such as at http://www.rdrop.com/~paul/species/nutkana.html, or http://www.nwplants.com/images/ros_nut_hb.jpg, or http://www.laspilitas.com/plants/3359.htm. Let me know if you know more about this rose!
The Mink Creek Trails are in the Scout Mountain area.
This is an absolutely beautiful flower. I've always loved Northwest native plants but ever since I've moved away I see things like this and I really remember how beautiful they are.
