Believe Ruth Moorhead thinks this is a Nootka Rose, Rosa nutkana, because the sepals appear to extend beyond the petals. But the petals are unusually gathered and not spread out like they would be on the other wild roses I've seen, even when compared to other pictures of Rosae nutkanae (? - correct me - I never took Latin because they didn't make engineering majors at McGill do so!) on the Web, such as at http://www.rdrop.com/~paul/species/nutkana.html, or http://www.nwplants.com/images/ros_nut_hb.jpg, or http://www.laspilitas.com/plants/3359.htm.
