This was a Christmas present from my parents. I don't have many books of photographs. This one is quite inspirational. One photograph per photographer, with just about every famous photographer you can name, and a quite a few I've never heard of, all listed in alphabetical order. What struck me about many of the pictures is how they were an instant in time captured on film. While I enjoy doing pictures like last week's Coke can, it could have been taken at any time, last week, next week, next year. Or I could have used a 30 minute exposure, or it could have been taken anywhere in the world. It wouldn't make any difference. OK, so I'm not about to head off to Baghdad to work as a news photographer, but I am going to try to capture some 'instants in time'. Not great historic instants, just things that happen. More like my shot at Clapham Junction which I was very pleased with. But not today. Today was cold, grey and dull. A good day to sit at home with a cup of coffee and a good book!
