The sail is made from relief food bags stitched together. Talk about African resourcefulness.

Great shot. Worthy of National Geographic

A great shot of graphics and meaning. May the strength that comes from it is enough to see them through any challenge and ensure smooth sailing...

Not only ingenuity, but artistic too. Love the silhouette of the "sailor".

No doubt you get the best from your 17-55/2.8

Aesthetically, this is a wonderful image - but when I see what this sail is composed of, it's heartbreaking. Really puts things in perspective. Great image, Niall, and voted.

Great capture with fantastic light,V.
I was 4 weeks ago at the other side of the border (Ethiopia) to visit e.g. the Dassanech. How hard is the life of these people living around turkana lake. And fighting for a peace of grassland, almost no water or to much as a few month's ago.

So this one is not only beautiful but quite symbolic of that African ingenuity which you have mentioned.
I love the angle too. It makes the sail seem bigger than life as it's set against the deep blue sky and maybe because of that detail, I get the feeling that despite being torn and stiched together by hand, that it's still a damned strong sail, just like the men that are looking at it...
