I was passing by this abandoned building in Manchester the other day when I spotted the ‘fallen angel’ behind the locked gates. I decided to come back the next day, hop the gates and see what I could find. Amazingly, no starved killer attack dogs, no junkies. Just 8 floors of sadness. This was the result. I had only one lens and no tripod in low-light conditions and only sharpening has been applied to most images (damn soft lens). A lot of the pictures are noisy and have blurry patches but for once this seems to fit the mood of the gallery.

Really haunting work - thanks for sharing. Reminds me of some 20 years ago, I broke into an abandoned gas staion and shot a bunch of tri-x in there - gonna have to dig those up. Anyway, gets my vote.

i love the line 'just 8 floors of sadness' is wonderful but perhaps not quite what i get from this gallery. i've always thought that, if looked at in the right way, decay, irregularity, and solitude is almost the most beautiful thing one can find. you have deftly and starkly put this belief into photographs with this gallery. bravo!

Some events in life can be so sad. Having worked for a company for 24 years, the factory was closed down and work moved away just because product could be produced a little bit cheaper else where, disregarding what happens to all the workers lives, familys etc.You have captured a time in history where people had worked,lived etc. and time has moved on. Congratulations.Very atmospheric.

Gorgeous gallery, Niall. I like the cold, stark 'in your face' mood of these photos - the abandonment. In some way there is almost a black humour present - like the half toilets hanging on the wall. Excellent work!
