Hi there and greetings from New Orleans, Louisiana. By day I work on movie sets as a carpenter or painter or whatever they hire me to do. I also bartend on a riverboat downtown when I am in between projects. I am very new to the world of photography. It is something I've always wanted to do, but just recently had to means and time to get started. About a year ago I bought a Canon AT-1 with a 50mm lens at a pawn shop and took only a couple of pictures. Nothing really came out; was not sure how to work all of the settings. In late January of 2005, I started in with getting serious about picture taking. I had some time on my hands and figured that I had to start somewhere. It has been a lot of hit and miss. Been learning the hard way.
I have picked up a few lenses from eBay; a 28mm, 135mm, 100mm, and a 100mm-200mm zoom. You've gotta love eBay. One day I might get a good digital camera, but for now I'll stick with film. I am a die hard film-freak. Call me old fashsioned. There is such a natural beauty to it.
The way I see photography is that it is a way to listen to the world around us. I try to not set up anything, just quiet my mind, open my eyes, and try to see the world as it is, not as I preceive it to be. There are some shots I've cropped a little, but for the most part what you see here is how it came out on film.
Any input, comments, or advice you have for me is welcomed.
September 2005 -- I got out of town before Katrina hit. Spent the first few days at my brother's house in Alexandria. Everyone in my family is accounted for and got out safe as well. I got out of town with most of my tools, a bag of clothes and all of my pictures! Glad I didn't leave them behind. Seeing how I cannot got back uptown any time soon, I headed out west. Right now I am staying in Long Beach, CA with a friend and going to start work on a movie out here. I have to get back to work as soon as possible. There are too many other people out there that need the resources more than I do. Besides, working will keep my mind off of everything. I cannot get to a computer on a regular basis right now. You can email me, but I cannot promise how fast I will respond.
