Rishikesh, northeast of Delhi where the Ganges emerges from the Himalayan foothills, is the town where the Beatles famously journeyed in search of enlightenment. Yoga classes and ashrams cater to New Age devotees as well as Indian pilgrims, although Haridwar, just downriver, has greater spiritual significance for Hindu pilgrims.
