Family Veliidae - Broad-shouldered Water Striders

Veliids are lesser known and less conspicuous as their cousins the Water Striders (family Gerridae). Microvelia species inhabit pond edges, while Riffle Bugs (Rhagovelia species) frequent quiet pools or eddies of streams and rivers.
