Goodbye Sweetheart (2001-2008)

Ann Arbor, Mich.

Sometimes you just have to let go of things you love, especially when they are hurting. So we sent our little Zoey off
to be with God on Monday. For four months, we have battled to save her life, but it just wasn't meant to be. We had
seven short, but happy years with this little dog that brought so much love and joy into our lives. She loved us dearly,
our family was her pack. When we went out together, for a walk or to the park, she wanted us to stay together. If I wandered
off taking photos, Zoey would jump at my wife's leg, as if to say, Dad's not here, we need to go find him.

I took this photo four years ago and included it in a calendar called a Year of Zoey that I gave my wife one Christmas. My
wife said this photo made her feel better, as if Zoey was walking off in a meadow in heaven to chase after critters. Zoey loved
to chase after the chipmunks and squirrels in our wooded backyard. It was her biggest joy (after eating). The first thing every
morning, she would check out the view from all the windows, and if she saw a critter, she would run to my wife and stare
intensely at her, until Jan would ask, "What is it?" Then Zoey would bark like a maniac and run back to the window, as if to
say "Out here, there's a chipmunk I need to chase." And then Jan would let Zoey out the door and that little dog would tear
off like there was no tomorrow.

I have taken thousands of photos of Zoey over the years, publishing many of them here. The studio shots of her
wearing hats, standing on a scale or sitting at a typewriter, always entertained everyone and, I hope, brought smiles
to a lot of faces. Her galleries aren't very organized right now, but there are plenty of smiles and good memories there.

After losing our first westie and 2 more dogs within 3 years , we wanted to try a life without dogs. I think it was actually your wonderful photos of Zoey that finally made us realize that only a new westie could fill the big empty gap in our hearts. Shortly after we got a lovely little girl and half a year later she got a brother. The two dogs are inseparable, and we enjoy every minute we spend together. When I visited your album again tonight, I was so saddened to learn that Zoey has passed in August last year. I wish you all best, and I would not be the least surprised if suddenly new albums of a little westie were uploaded to pbase. Many reagrds also from Luna & Max....

Zoey was an extrodinary character and you have paid her a wonderful tribute.
I too lost my westie in Oct '08, Angus, he was nearly 17 yeard old, he was our world. Believe me it doesn't matter how old they are they always leave us far too soon.
You have some fantastic pictures of Zoey and I pray that soon your tears will turn to smiles when you remember her.
Perhaps Zoey and Angus will meet up over rainbow bridge one day.
Take care my friend.
