The lighthouse on Little St. George Island (Florida Panhandle coast) in 2005. This lighthouse had been standing on the island since 1852. Beach erosion and the shifting nature of barrier islands, combined with the 2005 storm season, undermined the base of the lighthouse and caused it to topple into the Gulf of Mexico (see http://www.stgeorgelight.org/ ).
This photo was taking from the west point of the uninhabited Little St. George Island last summer while we were on a shelling expedition. It was sad to go by the same point this year and not see the lighthouse standing...
