For many years the young and young at heart gathered at the white sand volleyball courts. Many leagues played year round and national tournaments were held here. Water from Lake Pontchartrain during Katrina wiped the place off the map.
A temporary trailer-office was brought in and one court has been established. It is hoped that eventually the leagues will regroup. The team that I spoke to said it is a wonderful way to relieve stress of everyday living in post-Katrina New Orleans.
The entire playing field is surrounded by debris, broken glass, twisted metal and abandoned boats but these brave die-hards continue on.
