Commander's Palace

Washington Avenue in New Orleans

Known the world over for its fine New Orleans cuisine, Commander's hopes to reopen in September following extensive restoration from hurricane damage.
The Brennan family shared much of their food from their freezers with people and emergency workers in the City immediately following Katrina. It was difficult to get the restaurants up and running because so much of the restaurant cooks and waiters had evacuated and also had no homes to come back to.

Having grown up in New Orleans, it is amazing that I never had eaten at Commander's Palace. In 2004, my husband and I took a day trip to the city that culminated in finally eating a wonderful meal at Commander's Palace. I don't know why we made that day trip from Baton Rouge, but I'm glad we did.
