This is an "A. Hayes Town" house. Mr. Town was a Baton Rouge architect noted for his flair in using old materials in his grand houses. He reused cypress and barge boards and flooring from warehouses on the riverfront. He searched far and wide for the proper old brick and built his houses to please his clients.
It is located on the levee of Lake Pontchartrain and is named for a plantation house in Jefferson Parish that was destroyed by the railroad. Though it looks old it is only about 30 years old. Hurricane Katrina lifted part of the roof and water got into the third and second floors. The owners are lovingly repairing it.
