Ursuline Inner Courtyard

On the fourth day after Katrina a Black Hawk helicopter circled above this Courtyard at midnight causing the water in the Courtyard to splash to the third story. A military man was lowered by rope and the nuns were told that they had to get out - probably by the same rope. The Mother Superior told him that they had people there from two years to 92 years and that all were well fed and in good health and to come back in the morning. The spunk of the Ursuline nuns!!!
Surrounded by walls on four sides, this Courtyard sustained little wind damage but the water killed the grass and some of the shrubbery and trees. The azaleas did not survive, but the camellias and crepe myrtles are doing well. The sago palms will look fine after the lower brown leaves are removed. This is probably the most uplifting photo of all that I took at Ursuline.
