There is no one around - the City is still under lockdown - no one but the National Guard. If it were not so dangerous, with looters and devious characters lurking in the abandoned buildings I could have truly had a field day shooting photos in the French Quarter, but in this day and age I shot and ran.
The founding fathers of New Orleans were excellent planners. The Vieux Carre' or Old Square was built on the highest ground in the City and the construction of the buildings was of the finest woods and bricks and excellently constructed.
The Vieux Carre' suffered little damage during Hurricane Katrina and the area was not flooded. Though it is still without electricity and few residents have returned yet, it stands as a beacon of hope for the City of New Orleans. It was good to see this area so clean and without throngs of people.
I have added a new gallery "New Orleans After Hurricane Katrina" and have added new pictures to the gallery "New Orleans City Park after Katrina". Busy, busy; better than scrubbing mold and mildew today.
