Nottoway Plantation

White Castle, Louisiana

The building behind the main house, on left in background, is a two storied garconniere (a place where boys lived when they became teenagers and a style that I have never understood).

The Garconniere had nothing to do with slave girls but a custom at the time to allow boys more freedom away from their mother and sisters.

Magnificent structures Coleen...I wouldn't want to have to keep them clean!

Gotta separate those teenage boys from the civilized folks! Great plantation and a beautiful composition, nicely framed by great old trees.
