One of the best ways to enjoy Aswan and the islands is to take a felucca, the ancient canvas-sailed boats of the Nile which have been cruising up and down the river for 4,000 years. According to Lonely Planet, no visit would be complete without at least one hour spent sailing around the islands in one of these graceful little boats. The trip is particularly exceptional just before sunset, when the lights work its magic.
