This is a very stark image of those horrible years. I could not imagine being the man with the rifle.

..he has both arms & all his fingers...remarkable, and somewhere beyond, someone else with a gun, someone else holding a child, senior citizens, friends--from both sides--falling in love...your photograph tells of them, too and i feel so thankful, even as an amputee, I am thankful..i hope you are domcumenting life here,now, too, richard thank you

outstanding photo. all the elements in this photo really come together in a strong statement. that classic M-14 look really helps make the photo. had he been holding a M-16 i don't think it would have been as impressive. well done soldier!!!
