Scarlet Leafwing II

Scientific name: Siderone galanthis

I noticed this scarlet leafwing climbing a reed near a fountain in the Butterfly Garden. Notice that it is using its proboscis to either assist
it in climbing or as a tactile organ. In fact, Brian Merlotadl has pointed out that the proboscis appears to be depressing
the reed! In addition, its wings are partly open, revealing the striking red color of the inner wings. When the butterfly
managed to climb to the top of the reed, it hung upside down and camouflaged itself in a group of leaves.

Another superb capture, Jay. Fascinating to see its use of the proboscis, and are my eyes deceiving me or is the right edge of the reed slightly deformed by the force of its clasping action? ~V~

Beautiful capture, beautiful butterfly. I miss macro options at this time of the year. Maybe a trip to our local butterfly pavilion will fix that!
