7 Sept (2)

Dad: just an update shot following on from previous blog entry earlier today...
Pooch now home and sleeping off the anaesthetic. Nothing was found embedded in his
paw after all, but he had to have some stitches as it was quite a deep cut.
Complete mystery what he could have stepped on during this morning's walk to cause it. :-(

update 8th Sept: pooch very sore and grumpy today, not surprisingly, so no photo.

update 10th Sept: Pooch's leg dressing has been removed... we have been advised by the vet to put a special 'dog boot' on
the sore paw in order to take Pooch out for very short potty walks but Pooch flatly refuses to walk with it on. If anyone has
any other ideas/experience on how we can keep his injury clean and protected from the elements we'd very much welcome
your suggestions! The vet was a dead loss on the subject.

Poor Pooch. I feel so sad now. Hope you get better soon.
Poochdad - try plastic bags.
Kimba had one of his rear legs all wrapped up when he was 40 weeks and the only way we were able to keep his leg clean was to wrap it in plastic bags when we let him outhttp://www.pbase.com/emmii/40wks

Thick plasticbags + duct tape around the top above the spur( but not get stuck to the fur) is the easiest ´"protective shoe" to make. 2-3 layesr and they last a walk, then just use scissors to cut it off. A piece of duct tape underneath the sole is good too.

I sewed socks of an old raincoat for my old dog when she had stitches in her paw. Just long enough to reach over the spur (?) or thumb or what ever its called in English. Then I sewed on velcro on the top to fasten it around the leg. Like the protective socks sleigh dogs wear. In fact I had one of those as template. The dogs don´t seem to mind these as much as those awful rubberboots.
They only last for a couple of walks, but I made A LOT of them.Re-used the velcros for the new ones... Sorry, I don´t have any photos...
