Nestled in the northern down slopes of Ilgaz mountain range towards Black Sea, Kastamonu is a town rich in history, heroism and natural beauty. I lived Kastamonu form the spring of 2004 to Spring of 2008. During which time I’ve taken many photographs of the city-center, the surrounding towns and the country side. And because I took many photos, the cataloguing them is a bit time consuming. Please be patient and check here from time to time.
In Kastamonu, first I have the Districts within the province. Then, I have the monumental structures according to Seljuki, Ottoman and the Republican periods. Later, I have the Vernacular homes which Kastamonu and the nearby town Safranbolu is known for. I have to make a short distinction is that while Safranbolu is better know for its homes, Kastamonu has better preserved and has larger monumental building from the Seljuki and Ottoman periods. Also I found diverse subjects from Art-deco style elements-of-construction to the Azeri-art done in the streets by an artist from Azerbaijan. Enjoy and be patient for now…
