The word ‘mosque’ is the corruption of the Arabic word of 'masjid' which means the place of prayer, ritual or worship. All mosques, whether classical or contemporary they all share the minimum of seven features in design and planning. They include the SADIRVAN or the ritual cleansing fountain, the MINARET, the MIHRAP which is the niche of a mosque indicating the direction of Mecca, the MINBAR which is the stair like pulpit, the SPACE for the believers to pray in, the CARPETING for the floor and the SCRIPTURES for the walls. These constants you will find in all of the mosques every where in the world. The following photos are of the Contemporary mosques I have found thus far in Turkey. They mainly differ from the classical Ottoman mosques in structural shapes. In addition they have the amenities of the present times such as the wall to wall carpeting and under the floor heating. In all they are real architectural marvels and they ingeniously harmonize the visions of their architect in a spiritual way. These are real experiments that are going side by side along with the classical mosques such as the Kocatepe in Ankara and the Sabanci family financed in Adana.
However, I found out that whatever the shape they are they all smell the same!... Enjoy...
