We found a tent with an enterprising shop keeper selling, among other supplies, blankets. We bought 3 and sewed blankets for the horses. The plastic rain pounchos we had covered the with the first night hadn't helped too much, though they had kept them dry. While we were sewing, our tent started to shaking.
