Best of my D70

I bought a Nikon D70 with 28-80mm and 70-300mm lenses back in June 2004. What a great buy!! It's a wonderful camera and I've really enjoyed using it!! Since then I've bought a second D70 body complete with the 18-70 kit lens (D series), which I also love!!

This gallery is made up of some of the best shots I've had from them so far. The images appear in the order I took them with the newest shots coming at the end of the gallery.

Well! Great Shots! I have been moaning about how fake DSLR's make everything-all plasticky and unreal, but your shots look fine. What is nice is the accurate exposures, or at least accurate post processing. They are still a little bit too sharp for my tastes, but not by much. I am not sure digital will work for me, as I shoot only B&W, but as I have some decent Nikon glass I just may try a D70 based on your excellent shots. Thanks, Steve.

I love your photos but I just wish they would be left unfettered of frames. I don't like frames and believe they weaken rather than enhance great pictures like yours.

Hi Chris, I have been getting hep from Bill Voight who said to view your site - wow, now I know why. I am new to photography and processing and feel almost speechless at the quality and beauty of all your shots. The processing, in particular in the landscape scenes is exactly what I am trying to do and it gives me the models from which to work. If Kinkade was English is what I would dream of achieving and your explanation of the pp is very helpful. Chris, you have some magnificent photographs, you are clearly very talented. Thanks for sharing them with us all. I am just about to turn 18 and am hopefully getting a D70 from my parents as a present, are there any tips you can give specifically? How much software tweaking has been performed on these photos? The colours are so beautifully vivid. I will probably only get the 18-70mm with the camera, which telephoto lens would you recommend if I were to invest in one? Chris, Absolutely wonderfull photographs!!! I just traded my ol' faithfull F2AS with some good leneses while travelling in Singapore (now in India and will be in Korea in a week) for the D70 and 18-70 lens. You have inspired me to forget the past, shoot away with new Digital SLR and have fun! I shot 9000+ pics in 3 years with my Canon G5 and now it's time to give the toy to my wife and start shooting with a real camera! Many thanks for your kind comment, Cheryl ~ much appreciated! In answer to your questions, the lens I've been using are Nikon 'G' series lenses ~ very much the budget end of the range. I've been fairly happy with them except for the fact that the 70-300 is not always very quick to focus when it's fully extended. I'm actually saving up for a Tamron 28-300mm lens which will do away with the need for continually switching lenses. Hi Chris! I enjoyed your gallery very much!As a matter of fact I enjoyed it so much that it actually made up my mind to save until I can purchase a D70 myself.After all why waste dollars on something that is not going to totally satify me as a photographer?Are the two lens you used made by Sigma?Are they the ones that are included in one of the D70 plus lens kits?

Some nice pics, but honestly, they have very little originality. These aren't the kinds of pictures you will see in a Magnum catalog or in a art museum.... Try to experiment more... don't always take pictures from the obvious angles. For example, if you see a prominent building, there's no point in taking a picture of the front of the building... millions of those have been taken. Think of ways to express how it feels to be where you are, in your pictures. Keep practicing.

I have had one or two artists use my pictures as a basis for a painting but, unfortunately, we don't have too many aspens in the U.K. ~ at least, not where I live. Hi Chris! There is always more to a camera and the lenses. Even though the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G Autofocus Zoom Lens has often been looked down as a cheap alternative from Nikon; your beautiful photographs prove how wrong many a reviews are on the web! It is the photographer and the subject which matter the most! Once again AWESOME gallery!!!

Chris, Fantastic gallery. I live in Weymouth and love these shots of the area. I particularly love the lighting and contrast you get in your images. I think your D70 photos are among the best that I have seen. I think the right post processing is critical for success and yours is excellent. I really enjoy your pictures of the thatch roofed English home and I wonder if they are as cozy and comfortable as I suppose them to be?
