GALLERY:: Details & Desolation - Bodie California ::2004

Bodie, a California State Park which is kept in a state of "arrested decay," is a photographers dream. I found myself caught by the sense of desolation rather than the buildings - Bodie is in literally in the middle of nowhere.

There are numerous Bodie galleries on pbase. (My friend Phil Douglis' gallery is: LINK: Conveying a Sense of Place.) I hope that this gallery adds to the vision other able photographers have given us and captures its remote bleakness and ugly beauty.

You are correct to describe Bodie as a photographer's dream. I have enjoyed my visits there and am always looking forward to the next time I can return. I really love the way you captured some of the details of the town. You have a very creative eye and have inspired me to take a more detailed approach to my photographs on my next trip. My favorite image in this gallery is "Weeds". I love the contrast and the DOF. Excellent gallery. If I were a member of pbase you would get my vote.

I have got to know Bodie quite well through Pbase. But your images Tim put yet another dimension to this place. I know one thing, that between you and Phil you have managed to make me want to visit this place....and that is a sign that you have succeeded in producing some great images.

If my Bodie gallery was about a sense of place, yours is about a sense of mood. You give us not only what Bodie is, but also how it feels. Looking at these images is an emotional experience as well as intellectual and imaginative one. Your editing focus is disciplined and taut. Nothing repeats and nothing is wasted. Every image counts.
