During my years in High School we made many trips through Bakersfield on the freeway between Los Angeles and where my aunt lived. The Central Valley was a long and often tedious drive in all season. Fog in the winter and heat in the summer. For a few years a good friend of the family lived in Bakersfield so we would stop. But until last year, I had never been in downtown Bakersfield. Bakersfield was build on agriculture and oil. There is a big oil derrick outside the high school. We visited downtown on Sunday morning so it was relatively deserted and quiet. I really have no idea how vibrant it is during the week. Downtown shows a range from decay - to new - to restored. It was an interesting place to find images.
