I spotted this shovel stuck in the earth at the corner of a field on the farm of my friend, David a Mennonite farmer. I thought he was off on another part of the farm working, but when I finished taking this and a few other photos of the shovel from different vantage points, I noticed he was standing nearby watching me going through my photographic gyrations. I admit I felt a little silly as I had been contorting to get what I thought was the best shot and realized how strange I must have appeared to him. When he saw that I had noticed him, he came over and asked to see the picture. He looked at it and told me how much he liked it. I think we had a moment of understanding, a merging of different worlds. It was very satisfying.
