Poor Fudge lost his wag earlier this week. He couldn't wag his tail or sit down. A Lab who can't wag is not a Lab at all so we were rather concerned about him.
Normally it's not just his tail that wags, but every inch of his being from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. He wags when we come down first thing in the morning, he wags when we come home from work, he wags when it's time for a walk, in fact he wags if we return to the room after just five minutes.
Not having any idea as to why his wag had disappeared, he was still healthy and eating if somewhat subdued due to his lack of wagging, my husband did some googling. He discovered that sporting dogs such as Labradors can suffer from a little known but still fairly common syndrome known as limber tail, limp tail or cold water tail.
And yes, Fudge had gone into the sea when we went to the beach at the weekend when it had been very cold.
Luckily it's a condition which is cured with rest and Fudge is more or less back to normal.
I had hoped to get a photo of him wagging but soon realised it wasn't possible. He turns into a whirling dervish when wagging so the other option was to get him to sit.
Meanwhile Toffee keeps on top of the news
