After Dark

This is the main entrance to Dundalk's biggest shopping centre ,The Marshes. Its architecture echoes that of older buildings in town, with this pillared entrance inspired by the courthouse.
I don't usually go shopping here as there's little to interest me - the clothes shops mainly cater for skinny teenagers, the book store is disappointing, and there's no camera shop.
I know this isn't a great night shot but it will have to do. It would obviously have benefitted from the use of a tripod but I was worried enough by being spotted by the security men without wanting to draw attention to myself - apart from the fact that my tripod was safely gathering dust at home. Maybe one of these nights I'll take it out for a trip.

Not bad without the tripod. I like the bit of motion your hand holding adds.

Really nice image - well done!

Hard to imagine this shot being better. By the time you got done fussing with a tripod, all the people would have gone home!

Beautifully captured night shot, a lovely warmth! v

It is a good shot of a rather nice looking shopping centre. Ours are ghastly modern and look quite decrepit after only a few years.

A good night shot despite the lack of a tripod! Ken Rockwell thinks that digital technology has made tripods obsolete.

You have captured the mood so well! ~V

fine comp and well done for 1/15s...using a tripod can draw a bit of attention, but surprisingly many people are quite respectful when they notice what appears to be such a serious pursuit of an image...exzim is right too, barring a few particularly sensitive locations, you are well within your rights to take photographs in public spaces...a shopping centre does not represent a location of national security concerns...particularly one that does not offer cameras for sale..

This is pretty good for handheld. I try to lean on a lamp post or something. I like the brightness, the busy-ness of the shoppers. Has a holiday mood!

Wow Mairéad, that's one fancy shopping centre.
No camera shop, it wouldn't interest me either.LOL.
Great shot though.V.

Wonderful night photo of this busy shopping center. Lovely light and clarity. V.

Great night shot, especially hand held. Since when could rent a cops hassle you in a public space. !

I like it! It has a 'Back to the Future' look about it. Any DeLorean cars in the vacinity?
I know what you mean about not wanting to draw attention with a tripod, I've felt the same and it's a shame.

This looks like a beautiful shopping center! I know what you mean about the stores though.... I'm darned tired of all those teeny-bopper clothing stores too!
Great hand-held shot Mairead! :)

I think you took a fabulous shot. A lovely glowing beacon on a dark night. I must say, this is unlike any shopping malls around here (though I am not a fan of shopping malls, I must say). V
