Stone Walls.

Stone walls are a recurring feature of the Irish landscape. They mark the boundaries of fields and show how farms were divided and divided again as they were passed down from generation to generation. The building of walls also cleared the land of stones, providing grazing for sheep and cattle.

Love those stone walls and the iron gate. This is very nice. I love to see them here but they are rare except in the hill country. This is just lovely!

those amazing walls speak of centuries of effort to hand-build by patient, hard-working farmers...my mother, from Lisburn, referred to them as stone ditches...V

Beautiful landscape. These walls amaze me. There are so many stones involved and they stretch for miles yet stay in place over the years. V

Dry stone walls are very much a tradition where I come from too but alas a dying art.
The late afternoon sun looks lovely here adding a golden tone to the scene.

I love the gate too. The walls are amazing when you think of carrying all those rocks to make them. V.

What a great gate too! Long live the stone walls, here's hoping the large farm machinery doesn't call for too many to be taken down.

I love stone walls though I stay a respectful distance from them after a few bee stings. Wonderful photo. V

Don't you wonder about the hours of labour that must have gone into them - each wall really is a work of art in its own right (you may gather I have a 'thing' about dry stone walls). I feel a new gallery in the making. I must stop my rambling ... Nice shot:-)
