Romantic Ireland is Dead and Gone

Thus lamented W B Yeats in his poem 'September 1913'. He went on to castigate those that' fumble in a greasy tillAnd add the halfpence to the pence',
so goodness knows what he would have made of modern Ireland, especially now in the wake of the Celtic Tiger when we are left to pick up the pieces of the banking crisis, the unfinished housing estates littering our towns and countryside, and a new generation of emigrants leaving our shores in search of jobs.
But we still have our culture and heritage, major factors in retaining our national identity and attracting tourists, and a new President who has promised to make ' the values of equality, respect, participation in an active citizenship' a hallmark
of his presidency.

We've already entered the colorless season and that green is so refreshing. These are tough times, but Ireland will always fascinate and attract!

Your subject and your words may sound and look sombre, but the lovely images you capture show that you have a heart that feels joy in your surroundings.

An appropriate scene for lamentation over the greed rampant in our world. Keep beauty in your sites.
Cindi Smith02-Nov-2011 00:54
We are going through the same here. A beautiful country you have and this image is very sad. Ireland will never cease to be. It will always be a beautiful country!
Guest 02-Nov-2011 00:20

Life is really tough for the Irish , I hope things turn around soon.

My heart goes out to your country and it's people and though I guess these old folks saw many hard times it's for the best they don't see it again...

Wonderful, wonderful shot, showing that legendary green! A romantic view that I am sure Yeats would have approved of. As long as the landscape remains untouched... VV

Love the antiquity of this cemetery and the moody sky is a perfect foil to the old headstones. And the green grass is very Irish. Beautiful. V.

Romance is over-rated ;0) There will always be tourists heading to Ireland ... maybe fewer now Dana didn't get in. Keep the good pictures coming and well be adding our names to the list of visitors.
