Back to the future

I'd been toying with the idea of getting some sort of decent point and shoot for some time.
Much as I love my DSLR, it's heavy and bulky. Not ideal for lugging around on a family
holiday or for tucking away in a handbag.
The Olympus Trip was my first decent camera and even after I got the OM10 it was
still the camera I took on holidays with me. When I saw the Olympus PEN-1 last year
it was love at first sight - apart from the price tag. I checked the reviews and looked
at galleries by users here on Pbase and marked it for future reference. So, when I
found it heavily discounted as it has now been replaced by a newer model, I
decided to buy it. Of course, when I went to the camera shop this morning, I got
distracted by the 'all singing all dancing' P&S' and had to consider my options
over a cup of coffee and some texting to Máire. Finally I bought it, but not before
spotting a pretty summer dress as well! All in all a successful shopping trip.

You had a good day Mairead, good luck with the new toy.
Know what you mean about the bulky DSLR's too.

it's confusing looking at the many cameras on sale these days...this was an excellent choice...my first digi-cam was an Olympus compact with a sharp lens and great metering...look forward to your initial tryout with this Pen-1 in Italy...buon viaggio...V

Nice "brochure-style" shot. I'm a bit wary about P&S's; they give extra usage flexibility but it can be at a considerable cost in performance. I'll be interested to see how yours goes.

Jealous - mind I bought an Olympus Trip a few months back, I always wanted one but at the time couldn't afford it
