Horse Power

I have always loved horses and ponies. When I was a little girl, around 4 or 5 years of age, I asked
Santa for a pony. When he left me a toy wooden pony instead, I quickly got over my disappointment
and lavished my affections on our cows and calves instead. As soon as I learned to read, I devoured
books about horses - cried over 'Black Beauty' and wished I was the heroine of 'National Velvet'.
I grew into a pony-mad teenager, spending all my free time at the local stables, rode our neighbour's
horses, joined the pony club and made friends for life through a shared love of all things horsey.
It's years, however, since I sat on a horse and although I'd love to canter along woodland paths or
gallop on the beach, I think I would now be too scared of falling off and breaking a limb, something
which never cost be a second thought when I was younger.

It's amazing how little fear we have when we're younger! Beautiful horses! A lovely shot, Mairead. V~

Excellent horse portrait. We have a teenage daughter Rhiannon who is horse mad - will be taking her to the local stables for a riding session this afternoon.

The difference age makes. I haven't ridden years myself, and when I did I wasn't too steady, so sitting on horseback is probably a bad idea. Wonderful shot of this lovely pair.

Such a fine portrait of these two beauties! I too, was horse mad when young, but never had much opportunity to ride. I still photograph just about any horse I see. V

I like the "1/3rd for the one on the left, 2/3rds for the one on the right" composition here, as well as the tree framing them. They do seem quite friendly, perhaps in search of an apple.

Ah, they look so gentle and friendly, why would you be scared. Well, I guess a photo will have to do.

Being a man, man I could never see the attraction, but now I understand " My little Pony" . Did those boys have you girls sussed out or what ;-). Great angle on your shot

These two have their winter coats yet - someone needs to use the shedding comb! They are both very nice looking horses - pretty faces.

Look at those sweet faces. How can you be afraid? :) Super capture of these beauties.
Doug Cruden12-Mar-2010 22:27
These two look like a likely pair! I was on a horse, once....that was one time too many. I have threatened to ride Smokey, my daughter's pony LOL!!

I can mirror almost all of your memories here, though i was lucky enough to own a pony for a few years. These two have good thick winter coats!
