A Tale with a Happy Ending

This was almost our new dog. A big beautiful bouncing eight month
old Golden Labrador. We were ready to welcome him into our home but
unfortunately Toffee wasn't. From the first over enthusiastic woof, Toffee
was fearful of the new arrival and retreated upstairs. With every
subsequent woof, and there were plenty of them as our new boy was
missing home, Toffee become more and more nervous, glancing over
his shoulder at every sound. We could have forgiven the broken sleep,
the 'accidents' on the kitchen floor, but the sight of our poor puss
skulking around upstairs in fear meant I had to phone the Lab's owner
and ask if they would take him back. I was ready to beg, to sob, but
luckily she agreed. And as we handed him back, she revealed that they
have decided not to sell him after all but to erect a radio-controlled
fence to prevent him from straying and her sons have promised to pay
more attention to him. So fortunately it was a tale with a happy ending.

Sometimes they learn to get along...but in this case, it's best that the sweet lab went back to its first owners. Enjoyed your story and this capture, Mairead.

I'm glad that there's a happy ending. Usually there isn't.

It takes a while for cats to adjust to another pet. But a young, energetic dog is probably very scary to Toffee. Too many sudden moves and loud noises. I hope the old/new owners will take good care of this sweet pup. He looks like a good boy.

All's well that ends well - cute pup though!

Eight months old? Way too much energy! It's good that Toffee's wisdom prevailed!

He's beautiful! Too bad it did not work out with Toffee. In our house the cats rule the roost, while the dog treads around them very carefully trying to avoid conflict.

Lovely narrative Mairead - cats and dogs, they're so unpredictable. I must admit to being a bit of a cat person myself, so I'm with Toffee in this instance :o))

Cats rules houses, dogs don't. Toffee was just letting you know, though I must say, it would have been love at first sight had I met this beautiful dog. I'm glad your tale had a happy ending.

An interesting account of a difficult decision, and I'm glad it ended well for this lovely fellow. I hope Toffee has regained his composure by now.

What a beautiful pup! Too bad that Toffee was not accepting to a new brother, but it sounds as though this golden lab will have a happy home.
