A Touch of Frost

Today dawned cold and frosty but it was soon replaced by rain. I sometimes think we've
been cursed by the weather department and will eventually sink into the Atlantic ocean
due to the amount of rain we get.
Generally speaking our weather is relatively benign, miserable yes, but catastrophic, no.
This year, however, many parts of the country experienced record rainfall at the end of November and the
mopping up operation is continuing. Hundreds of families are still out of their homes
with no prospect of moving back in for Christmas, while farmers and business people are counting
the cost of flood damage. Having experienced flooding twice in the past 30 years, I can truly empathise
with those families whose homes have been flooded and have seen precious belongings destroyed by
the floodwaters.
The only silver lining which can be seen in times like this is in the comfort of strangers. Despite the fact
that few people in Ireland have escaped the effects of the recession, there has been an amazing effort
to help those affected by the flooding. Farmers have donated fodder and charities have been overwhelmed
by donations of everything from blankets and clothing to food and toys.

A beautiful image dusted with icing sugar....My cousin has been flooded 3 times and its a heartbreaking experience....But life is the most important and its great to see how all the communities help each other...BV

Beautiful frosty scene. It is always nice to see kindness from strangers. Keeps our faith in society!

It's the comfort of strangers, friends & families that pull you through the bad times...floods & fire may destroy what we own, but it's the spirit that keeps us going. I feel for those going through it.

Those bluish tones the feeling of miserable weather so well. A very effective shot of those undesirable conditions.

Wonderful shot! Sombre, reflective, and it suits the commentary. The floods in Ireland and England have been phenomenal this year. I do hope that the rain ceases soon. Vote for this image

great visual springboard for your reflections...the overall feel rigid with shock...the various forms tangled like emotions...profound sense of dislocation...V

This is a great shot! The frost brings out all the fine little details in the leaves. Let's hope that the weather is kinder to your region and that those most effected by it can get some relief. ~V~

The frost is always so pretty, but not so nice when the rain doesn't stop... glad to hear that community spirit is alive and well with you, although through miserable circumstances...
