These dark winter days don't afford much opportunity for taking photographs. I usually carry my camera
with me everywhere in the hope that something will catch my eye.
This was taken after I'd dropped my son to school and was driving through town on the way to my office,
with not many minutes to spare!
The urn is a memorial to Agnes Galt, sister of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, who is buried in the graveyard
of St Nicholas Church in Dundalk. With parts of it dating back to the 13th century it is the oldest building still
in use in town. It is, I think, my favourite building in Dundalk, even though I only stood inside it for the
first time two years ago as it's a Protestant church which traditionally would have been out of bounds for Catholics.
It has a beautiful interior with impressive stained glass windows. It owes its nickname 'The Green Church' to
its copper spire.
