Seeing Red (or pink)

Saw this spectacular sunset as I was driving home from Carlingford yesterday. Thought I would get an interesting shilouette of St Andrew's Church at Bush but the trees had grown since I last took a similar photo about twenty years ago.
Thought it was quite suitable as I've been seeing a lot of red lately. I've had a lot of problems getting pictures to upload which is very frustrating. I love pbase, I love the community here, I love looking at other people's photographs, I love learning from the many great photographers here. I was patient when the site crashed, after all accidents do happen, but I really wish everything would be fixed soon.
Then I really started to see red last night when I thought more about the scandal of clerical abuse which has taken place in Ireland for decades and decades. I thought of the victims whom I've spoken to. One young man, well maybe not so young but younger than me, who had been abused by the notorious Fr Sean Fortune. Of the woman who told me how her mother, who had grown up in an orphanage, had been so haunted by the abuse and neglect she had suffered that it had returned to haunt her on her deathbed.
I thought of all the lives ruined. I thought of the children who had lost their innocence. And I thought this had happened because of the privileged role which the Catholic church had in Ireland, of how parents had entrusted their children into the care of priests in a way they wouldn't with other people, of the children's whose complaints were ignored by teachers and police.
I know not all priests and nuns were guilty - I had a much loved aunt who was a nun - but I am now firmly in the camp of Richard Dawkins.

A dramatic red sky reflecting the unspeakable drama in your country and many others. Getting the facts out into the open will help put an end to the abuse.

a powerful sky that reflects well the anger at the outrages coming to light...the church has a lot to answer for in this regard...here in Canada a similary harrowing scenario unfolded in the residential schools, tearing native Canadian children away from ther families, in many case abusing them horribly..the aim was to assimilate them into white society, and the kids were often harshly punished for speaking their own language among themselves..the fallout is still felt today in many tragically damaged lives...

The same thing happened here all over the country, priest are bein tried and convicted all the time since a decade. I remember too, the trouble I had with priest teacher when I was young, and so liked my mother when she raised hell about this, the priests drop their funny stuff, but I was banned from all the sports in school, like it was my fault they where predetors. Luckely, my father moved every few months for his job, and I was back in a normal school a few months later.

Richard Dawkins is one of my heroes too! A scene like this always reminds me how insignificant our little lives are when compared to the wonders of the universe. An awesome image.

Your words made me angry as well, as angry as the sky on the image, but seeing it longer, it calmed me down. Fine work.

Great colors in this image! I agree with your commentary.

A beautiful sky. As a Catholic, I understand your anger.

Great sky! So vivid! You have the right to be upset, but don't hold on to that. It doesn't pay to be angry. That energy can be used in positive ways to heal or prevent unjust deeds in the future. Beside, you'll get frown lines in your brow... :)

Beautiful sunset. The colors are spectacular! V

A really spectacular sunset mirroring your mood. I often think the press is wrongly maligned for doing their job. I shudder to think how many more atrocities would continue to occur, if not for the press exposing them.

Great image! I do hope you don't see red for days - it'll run you down. You need some nice calming blue waters :-)

Fabulous streak of red ahead of the orange, at least with sights like this - it's not all bad :)

A great shot. I always perceive people doing your job as thick skinned ( Probably through TV portrail) Its obviously not the case. I could not do what you are doing and keep sane. Hang in there, its people in your field of work who are bringing this to the attention of the world. And my God it need doing .

Seeing red can be both beautiful and provoking. Seeing red is something a lot of people are doing here currently.
